Presentation of Nation

Nation is a French-speaking ultra-rightist movement, founded in September 1999 during the États généraux du nationalisme (Nationalism Convention). They claim to be "the only French-speaking nationalist organization struggling in a credible way against the multiculturalist society". Their youth branch Jeune Nation (Young Nation) was founded in 2000.

Nation has a presence in demonstrations organized in Belgium and in other European countries, together with other European "nationalist" groups. The political success of the movement is quite limited, ultra- rightism being much less popular in Wallonia and Brussels than in Flanders. Nation claims a Municipal Councillor in Verviers, elected in 1996 on a joint list with the FNB (Front Nouveau de Belgique, a splinter from Front National that eventually joined it again in 2008).

Flag of Nation

The flag of Nation is diagonally divided black-red by the ascending diagonal. According to the official explanation of the colours, "black symbolizes the nationalist matrix in which is the origin of our struggle" and "red means that we also struggle for a Nation where a true social justice would apply, a prerequisite to nationalism". The use of the Anarchist colours is probably not a coincidence and reflect the "hijacking" of these colours by the ultra-rightist movements.

The flag can be seen on photos taken during a "nationalist" demonstration in Antwerp, January 2004.
